KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops resident has been honoured for her efforts in supporting the WALK for ALS.
Kamloops WALK for ALS Coordinator Pat Tomlinson received the WALK of the Year Award for 2017 in Richmond Tuesday night.
The award is presented to an individual that has brought innovative additions to the WALK program, raised awareness in their community for the WALK and ALS and for achieving extraordinary fundraising results.
In accepting the award, Tomlinson said, “I am overwhelmed by the courage and sense of community that radiates from people affected by ALS. I am honoured to be the voice as the coordinator, even though it is truly a team effort.”
Tomlinson’s work encompassed organizing pre-event fundraisers including a series of dinners called “On the Rocks” last fall leading up to the WALK.
She also organized the Picnic Lunch which featured a musical performance following the lunch.
In addition to that, Tomlinson encouraged families to send in photos of their affected loved ones, which were then laminated and placed along the route of the WALK.
“Pat and her committee are amazing. The energy they have is tremendous,” noted Executive Director of the ALS Society of BC Wendy Toyer. “They have done all sorts of creative fundraisers. Their close-knit community has been very involved in supporting ALS BC.”
