KAMLOOPS — A one-week spring break was approved by School District 73’s Board of Education at their last meeting, but there are still a few more steps to take in the process to make it official.
The board must approve the proposed school calendar, which will be presented at Monday evening’s board meeting.
According to provincial regulations, the calendar must then be posted for public comment for at least a month.
While the decision to return to a one-week break has yet to be finalized, Vice-Chair of the board Gerald Watson says he doesn’t expect a change of heart.
“I don’t think there would be a reversal, but there’s room for discussion,” Watson said. “What happens is we have a mandatory one month period to receive input. We can certainly tweak it. We could go right back to the beginning. It’s not done at this stage. I suspect that we’re going to see at the end of the day something with a one-week spring break, but you never know.”
The Kamloops Thompson Teacher’s Association is expected to present survey findings regarding the one-week spring break decision at Monday’s meeting.
