School District 73 staff to receive training on using naloxone kits
KAMLOOPS — In the wake of increasing overdoses across the province, School District 73 is getting ready to roll out life-saving naloxone kits in the coming weeks.
Two naloxone kits will soon be available at each of the district’s secondary schools — with two trained staff able to administer the drug in the case of an overdose on school grounds.
The overwhelming number of overdoses and deaths from illicit drug use put the district on alert, knowing it has to be ready in case of such emergency.
“Interior Health, at the end of October, let schools know that we’d be able to obtain naloxone kits if we determined our settings to be high-risk, or if we had possible high-risk populations at our schools,” said Director of Student Support Services Trish Smillie.
