KAMLOOPS — B.C. may have had the lowest unemployment rate in Canada at 4.7 per cent in March, but the situation isn’t nearly as rosy in Kamloops.

Statistics Canada Labour Analyst Vincent Ferrao says the unemployment rate was 10.3 per cent last month, down a hair from 10.8 per cent in February but up significantly from 7.8 per cent in March 2017.

He attributes the increase to the expanded workforce in the city.

“More people were in the labour force, 70,500 last month compared to 66,200 a year ago, so there were more people in the workforce and not all of them found work.”
