Kamloops SPCA needing $370,000 more for new shelter

KAMLOOPS — The SPCA in Kamloops has started to draw up the plans for a new shelter that’s expected to break ground in August.

The Kamloops branch of the SPCA has been in the building, which predates the non-profit, since the late 1970s. The floor plan on the new facility is still in the works, but hoping to put it out to tender next month.

“We’ve hired Meiklejohn Architects. They’ve done a lot of BC SPCA projects for us across the province. Nanaimo was the last project that was completed,” said Kamloops SPCA branch manager Alyssa Kyllo.

“It’s going to be a 9,000 to 10,000 square foot building. It’ll include our spay and neuter clinic and our shelter.”

While the SPCA is going ahead with the project regardless, there is still fundraising ahead with $370,000 remaining to raise for the $4.8 million building.

People can donate any time at the Kamloops branch on 8th Street or on the Kamloops SPCA website.
