KAMLOOPS — Tomorrow marks a new chapter for air service in and out of Fulton Field, as the airport welcomes Newleaf Airlines to town.

The newest player in the Canadian airline marketplace will arrive tomorrow with their inaugural flight into Kamloops. Newleaf offers low cost, bare bones service to a variety of smaller markets in Canada. YKA Manager Fred Legace says the new airline has had a strong start.

The airline, which offers “ultra low cost” airfares, will service two destinations from Kamloops: Victoria and Edmonton. Tomorrow’s flight will arrive before 8 am, before picking up several passengers and continuing on to Victoria. Legace says the new service will attract a variety of flyers, many of whom might be attracted by the lower cost of flights.

“Where people are not driven by time constraints, then price is going to be the biggest, defining issues,” Legace offered. [Newleaf] are bringing that price differentiation to the market, so they will attract a crowd of people who would probably otherwise drive, or choose alternative transportation.”
