KAMLOOPS —  RCMP have one person in custody after a bizarre incident that ended at Peterson Creek this morning.

About 2:00 AM, Corporal Brandon Buliziuk says police got a complaint from the Sahali area regarding an alleged assault and theft of a vehicle.

A 41-year old male was reported to have assaulted his father and fled in the stolen truck.

Then about 7:00 AM, RCMP got another call from someone reporting that a vehicle matching the description of the stolen truck was parked in Peterson Creek Park. A man was reported near the creek and was described as being naked.

Police established a perimeter, using general duty members, the police dog services, and other members, and closed in on the male.

Corporal Buliziuk says after a brief verbal exchange, the man was taken into custody without incident. He was attended to by paramedics and Kamloops Fire and Rescue members. He was suffering from symptoms of hypothermia.

He was taken to Royal Inland Hospital to get checked over.

The police investigation is continuing, but it’s believed charges of some sort will eventually be laid.
