B.C. Unemployment rate jumps substantially
Aside from Atlantic Canada, B.C. had the biggest jump in its unemployment rate last month.
The B.C. jumped 5/10ths of a point to sit at 6.2 percent, up from 5.7 percent last month.
Most other provinces in the west stayed virtually unchanged in the past month. The rate in Manitoba and Alberta was unchanged, while the rate in Saskatchewan jumped by a tenth of a point, and Ontario’s rate dropped two-tenths of a point.
Among B.C. cities of note, Kelowna’s rate jumped to 8.0 percent from 7.3, Victoria’s was up three-tenths of a point, Abbotsford’s rate jumped to 6.4 percent from 6.0, while Vancouver’s rate was unchanged at 4.9 percent.
