British soldier’s stolen medals turned in to Saskatchewan RCMP; no suspects yet

KINDERSLEY, Sask. — Nine military medals stolen from the home of a British Armed Forces veteran in Saskatchewan have been turned in to police.

Kindersley RCMP say someone brought the medals in to the detachment today.

But police won’t say who turned them in, only that the investigation is ongoing and no suspects have been identified.

Jim Watson’s medals were stolen during a break-in at his apartment in Kindersley last weekend, along with military memorabilia and other household items.

The former staff sergeant said he was devastated and upset that he wouldn’t have his medals to wear for Remembrance Day.

RCMP say they will get them back to 54-year-old Watson as soon as they can.

Kindersley RCMP spokeswoman Meghan Mochoruk says the medals appear undamaged.

Watson, a married father and grandfather, immigrated to Canada in 2003 after a 24-year military career and worked in the oilpatch before the economic downturn. He served in the Gulf War, Bosnia and Iraq.
