LOGAN LAKE, B.C. — High water levels has caused damage to the Mamit Lake dam south of Logan Lake.

In a press release, Tech Highland Valley Copper says the extent of the damage is not known at this time.

The dam isn’t used for mining purposes, officials saying it’s primary use is for agriculture purposes as well to sustain fish habitats.

Residents and communities have been notified of the damage, with engineers continuing to monitor the situation.

“We’ve been out inspecting all of the facilities in the area and during out helicopter tour yesterday we noticed part of the spillway was compromised on the Mamit Lake Dam,” said Peter Martell, Superintendent of Environment and Community Affairs with Tech Resources.

Officials say the main danger if the dam were to break would be an increase in already flooded conditions downstream, with an evacuation alert issued to 30 homes south of Mamit Lake Saturday night.
