SAVONA, B.C. — Emergency crews were called to the scene of a head-on collision near Savona this morning, Aug 14.

According to Captain Wade Lindoff with Kamloops Fire Rescue, crews were dispatched to the scene of the collision shortly after 10 a.m.

“Rescue 1 responded towards Savona, it was just west of the lookout apparently, and Savona Rescue responded as well,” Lindoff said. “When they got there they found it was a two vehicle MVI involving a transport truck and an SUV.”

Lindoff says one person from the SUV was extricated using the Jaws of Life and transported to hospital by Air Ambulance.

Kamloops Rural RCMP say the lone drivers of both vehicles were taken to Royal Inland Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing.

One woman waiting in the long line of traffic behind the accident said traffic was backed up nearly to the entrance of Tobiano.

DriveBC reported that Highway 1 was closed in both directions 30 km west of Kamloops, but has now been opened to single lane alternating traffic.
