KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Mayor Ken Christian has deemed his recent visit with federal Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Amarjeet Sohi a success.

Sohi was in Kamloops last Thursday as part of a B.C. tour of mid-sized communities.

“We had an opportunity with council to tour the bus garage and look at the new CNG (compressed natural gas) buses. The federal government has contributed over $7 million to modernizing our fleet and he wanted to see how we had spent his money,” he told CFJC Today. And he also has been contributing to some of the Next Stop MCCTV equipment that we now have on our buses.”

Christian believes the minister was “quite satisfied” with what he saw.

“Kamloops has really been a leader in conversion to CNG and I think he feels that the contribution of the federal government really helped us get there faster.”

He says Sohi also lent a sympathetic ear to the city’s concerns related to storm water and its aging infrastructure – particularly sanitary sewage.

“He has some sympathy for the projects that we have and the size of them and their government is quite interested in helping municipalities out with some of the challenges presented by climate change.”
