KAMLOOPS — Today’s first burst of winter didn’t catch crews with the City of Kamloops off guard.
Glen Farrow, streets and environmental services manager with the city, says trucks have been out since last night.
“We’re going hard and running crews throughout the evening. We moved away from our 8:00 to 4:00 day shift. There’s much more support throughout the evening, starting last night.”
He says areas in higher elevations have seen the most snow, including Aberdeen, Lac Le Jeune and Barnhartvale.
As for today’s efforts, Farrow says crews are giving it all they’ve got.
“We have all our trucks out attacking all those arterial roads and moving into collectors later on today.”
He adds much of their work is focused on sanding and clearing roads for better traction.
“We’re trying to plow the snow off the road and in those slippery sections near stop signs, applying some sand to break down the ice. We’re right around that tricky temperature, around the -2 to +2 range, so ice is definitely a possiblity with compact snow.”
Farrow adds motorists can do their part to keep roads safe too.
“Please watch your speed and how closely you’re following traffic in front of you. Have the proper tires and be aware of our operators.”
