Woman, originally from Kamloops, killed by falling tree on Vancouver Island
KAMLOOPS — A freak accident on Vancouver Island has claimed the life of a 57 year old Williams Lake-area woman.
Mounties say on Tuesday, the woman was killed by a falling tree while hiking on the Ripple Rock Trail, 17 kilometres north of Campbell River.
“The woman and her daughter were hiking the popular trail together,” says Campbell River RCMP Cpl. Ron Vlooswyk.
“They were approximately three kilometres in on the four kilometre hike when a tree fell, striking the woman. Medical efforts by the daughter who is a nurse, and another hiker who is an ex-military medic, were not successful. She succumbed to her injuries. The force of the tree left no hope for survival.”
