Suspected compassion killing in Montreal: case to resume Wednesday

MONTREAL — A preliminary hearing will resume Wednesday in Montreal for a man charged with murdering his wife in a suspected compassion killing.

Michel Cadotte, 56, was charged in February with second-degree murder, one day after his wife, Jocelyne Lizotte, 60, was discovered in cardiac arrest at a long-term care facility.

The hearing is to determine whether there is enough evidence to send Cadotte to trial.

He was granted bail under several conditions earlier this month.

The judge hearing the case has placed a publication ban on the evidence and testimony being presented.

Cadotte was present, entering the courtroom flanked by both his sister and Lizotte’s sister.

He sat alone in the front row, quietly jotting down notes.
