Toronto Postal workers on rotating strike Tuesday
OTTAWA — Today’s rotating postal strike is in the Greater Toronto Area, where nine-thousand CUP-W workers were off the job in Canada’s largest city as of midnight.
And while it’s only one city, it’s one of the major processing centres in the country, and the rotating walkout there could cause more disruption than the walkouts in four separate cities Monday.
The head of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business says while rotating 24-hour strikes may be less harmful than a general strike, they create additional uncertainty for many small businesses at the critical holiday time.
Dan Kelly says the bad news for Canada Post workers is that every time they even threaten a strike, more small-business customers move to use alternatives — and many never return to Canada Post.
