Demi Lovato Hospitalized
Demi Lovato has been hospitalized in Los Angeles for a possible drug overdose. While TMZ originally reported that law enforcement sources claimed Lovato had suffered from a heroin overdose, a source later said that heroin wasn’t the cause of the overdose.
“Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support,” Lovato’s rep said in a statement to Variety. “Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now.”
Lovato’s next scheduled concert was set to take place tomorrow in Atlantic City. That performance has been canceled. The news was followed by the cancellation of last night’s episode of the Fox game show Beat Shazam, which featured an appearance by Lovato. The episode was taped in April 2017. “In light of recent reports, we have decided to replace the episode of ‘Beat Shazam’ with another all-new episode,” the network in a statement. “Our thoughts go out to Demi and her family.”
Lovato has spoken openly about her struggles with substance abuse and addiction. She entered rehab at age 18 in October 2010 “for emotional and physical issues.” She left rehab in 2011 and, for a time in 2013, lived in a “sober house” in Los Angeles. Lovato has received treatment for bipolar disorder, bulimia, and substance abuse.
