Golf Canada addresses tournament director change at RBC Canadian Open
OAKVILLE, Ont. — Brett McLaughlin’s future as a tournament director for Golf Canada remained cloudy on Saturday after CEO Laurence Applebaum addressed media.
McLaughlin was replaced by Bill Paul as tournament director for the RBC Canadian Open on Friday after two rounds of the PGA Tour event was played. Applebaum had a news conference scheduled for the next day and spoke about the unusually timed switch.
“Our tournament team will be reporting directly to Bill and he has my full support,” said Applebaum. “This decision is a confidential Golf Canada employee matter. Given that, I’m unable to provide further details.”
McLaughlin is also the tournament director for the CP Women’s Open, which will be at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club from Aug. 24-27. Applebaum said Golf Canada would review how the Canadian Open goes and explore options for a director for the LPGA tournament.
