Toronto shortstop Troy Tulowitzki has ligament damage on his right ankle, and Blue Jays manager John Gibbons figures the veteran might be out of action for a while.

Tulowitzki was injured during Friday night’s home game against the Los Angeles Angels. He left in the third inning after spraining his ankle while trying to run out a ground ball at first base.

An MRI on Tulowitzki’s sprained ankle revealed the damage. The 32-year-old, who was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Saturday, is set to be further evaluated by a foot/ankle specialist.

But Gibbons didn’t sound optimistic after the Blue Jays’ 11-10 win over Los Angeles on Sunday.
