Gwyneth Paltrow, Surviving the Haters
Gwyneth Paltrow has made her name as an Oscar-winning actress, bestselling author and phenomenally successful entrepreneur, but she has her share of insecurities too, she tells The New York Times.
In a lengthy profile, she opens up about the widespread backlash she got during her separation from Chris Martin in 2014. As anyone who hasn’t been hiding under a rock for the past few years will recall, they memorably described their separation as a “conscious uncoupling.”
On being labeled “the most hated celebrity in the world”, Paltrow said: “I remember being like, ‘Really? More than, like, Chris Brown? Me? Really? Wow.’ It was also the same week that I was People‘s Most Beautiful Woman. For a minute I was like, ‘Wait, I don’t understand. Am I hated to the bone or am I the world’s most beautiful?’ “
Paltrow also discussed the blowback she’s received for her wellness website, Goop. Among some of their more lambasted “expert” advice: GMOs cause depression, bee-sting treatments that killed a woman, putting jade eggs in your vagina, unpronounceable vitamins/powders for vague and difficult to substantiate disorders. Making matters worse in critics’ minds is the fact that Goop sells many of their “remedies” on the website.
