BC Green Party leader hosting environmental talk at TRU

While he believes the current generation is more concerned about climate change, Weaver says the BC Interior is already seeing the results of global warming.

“One of the things you can look around, that has clearly hit you is the lodgepole pine. We know that the devastation of the lodgepole pine is the combination of two things – one is the fact that there was a sequence of warm winters such that the larvae of the pine beetle were not being killed off in the winter, and two, the age structure of the trees.” said Weaver. “So you see on the ground a response of climate change here, but it is more than that. We know as a climate community that we can both detect and attribute increasing area burned with forest fires as a direct consequence of human activity.”

The meeting takes place at 5:30 tonight (Nov. 30) in the International Building on the TRU campus.
