Kamloops Santa Shuffle draws big crowd this year

“The community comes together… last year we had 72 people,” Capt. Lisa Trickett, local event organiser with Salvation Army says. “It’s just so amazing to see the increase in involvement from the community.”

This year’s participants embraced the Christmas themed event, as well as the opportunity to support the Salvation Army.

One runner liked the dress-up component of the fun run: “Just seeing what other people’s costumes are, and having fun with it. That’s the best way to any race.”

Another was just happy to get out for a run: “I run with the Running Room group, and they said ‘Why don’t you go to the Santa Shuffle. I said ‘okay, sure.’”

While a third was pleased to be able to help out the cause: “The proceeds go to the Salvation Army, which is near and dear to everybody’s heart.”

The Santa Shuffle takes place in over 40 cities across Canada, helping raise much-needed funds which support the work the Salvation Army does year round.

“Without our Christmas donations, we cannot do what we do year-round,” Trickett explained.

For these runners and walkers, it’s a great chance to fill themselves with the Christmas spirit.
