One lucky Kamloops kid off to see the Blue Jays in the Big Smoke

“It’s awesome. Four kids were chosen, one from BC and he came from Kamloops,” local Dairy Queen franchise owner Angelo Fontana told CFJC Today. Fontana sponsored the DQ Rally Cap program Luke took part in this summer. “I couldn’t be any prouder, obviously of what we do we do with Dairy Queen, and what Kamloops Minor Baseball Association does. The DQ Rally Cap program is a fantastic opportunity for all of us.”

The opportunity was thrown out there for kids who have been treated at one of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across Canada. Luke’s Mom Becky Boughton (who was also his Rally Cap coach this year) was battling breast cancer when he was born, and Luke has been living with some of the complications of that process.

“We got an email [asking] about any of the kids on the team being treated by any of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals,” Boughton explained. “I did know that Luke had, so I put out a few quick sentences and completely forgot about it. We got a phone call [informing us about the trip] and… that was amazing!”

For Luke, and his family, it’s an exciting opportunity, a once in a lifetime experience; Luke played it pretty cool.

KMBA Executive Director Sean Wandler says this trip will be something special Luke can look back on.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity,” Wandler said. “He gets to go… see a Blue Jays game, see them, play the Red Sox. He gets to spend the day at the Rogers Centre, probably go out on the field. For a young lad like him who loves baseball, to get that opportunity is going to be fantastic.”

The family will be in Toronto for the game on August 8th, which is one day before DQ’s Miracle Treat Day across Canada.
