CN Rail workers issue 72-hour strike notice

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — CN workers have filed a 72-hour strike notice.

In an email,  the Teamsters Canadian Rail Conference that represents approximately three-thousand conductors, train and yard workers across Canada says it served CN a strike order on Saturday.

The strike would go into effect May 30.

Earlier this week, the TCRC says CN agreed to change the terms and conditions of the collective agreement including a two per cent wage increase.

However, with the agreement still giving CN control over terminal closures and mandatory relocations, with no ability for the union to negotiate any protection for the members, workers say they have no other option but to strike.

Mike Cory, executive vice-president and chief operating officer of CN, says the company “continues to negotiate in good faith with the assistance of a federally-appointed mediator in order to reach a fair agreement before the strike deadline.”

The strike would go into effect 4 a.m. EST.
