UPDATE: Missing mother and child located in good health

KAMLOOPS — The missing mother and child have been located.

K-SAR Volunteer Search Manager Alan Hobler says the woman was relying on GPS to navigate the rough forest service roads between Vavenby and North Seymour Arm.

“From Vavenby it actually directed them down to some very rough forest service roads,” Hobler said. “They ended up getting stuck overnight. Fortunately, in the morning another vehicle that was following GPS instructions as well located them. They were trying to go to the same location.”

Hobler says they were able to drive out and were located by Search and Rescue Teams at that time.

He says the woman and child are in good condition.

EARLIER:

Kamloops Search and Rescue is attempting to find a woman and nine-year-old child today after the pair failed to show up in North Seymour Arm.

The woman was travelling from Alberta to the Shuswap Lakes where she was scheduled to meet up with others.

K-SAR Volunteer Search Manager Alan Hobler suspects the woman and child got stuck, lost, or ran out of gas.

“She sent a text message from Vavenby saying she was going to take a shortcut,” Hobler said. “It probably looks like she decided to try and access some of the forest service roads between Vavenby and North Seymour Arm, which probably isn’t the best driving.”

Hobler says PEP Air is scouring the area from the sky, Kamloops Search and Rescue has two teams out searching, and Shuswap Search and Rescue has dispatched three teams.

The woman was driving a red 2014 Hyundai Sonata with Alberta plates, and Hobler asks that anyone who may have seen the vehicle along forest service roads in the area contact RCMP.
