Is Jennifer Lawrence Quitting Acting?

The Oscar-winning Jennifer Lawrence is taking 12 months off of acting to get more “young people engaged politically,” she says.

She is already a member of the board of nonprofit anti-corruption org Represent.Us. alongside director David O. Russell, with whom she frequently collaborates the Red Sparrow star tells Entertainment Tonight.

  • “It doesn’t have anything to do with partisan [politics],” Lawrence said of her involvement with the non-profit organization. “It’s just anti-corruption and stuff trying to pass state by state laws that can help prevent corruption, fix our democracy.”
  • Or is she? A rep for Lawrence told Entertainment Weekly Monday that Lawrence isn’t going anywhere, and while she may dive deeper into politics, she is waiting on the green light on a few upcoming projects and will be highly active in Tinseltown again shortly.
  • Lawrence has become more and more involved in politics recently. In January, she participated in the Women’s March, holding a sign that read: “A woman’s place is in the revolution.”
  • This also isn’t the first time she’s expressed interest in taking a step back from Hollywood. The 27-year-old told Elle in November that she wanted to buy a farm and milk goats.

BAFTA CONTROVERSY

  • Meanwhile, many on social media are slamming the star for what they perceive as rudeness to BAFTA host Joanna Lumley, who welcomed her to the stage with a big compliment.
  • “And we start with the award for Outstanding British Film and who better to kick the whole evening off than the hottest actress on the planet?” Lumley said. “Soon to be seen in Red Sparrow, it’s the ravishing Jennifer Lawrence.”
  • Lawrence then appeared on stage and said, “Hi. That was a bit much, but thank you, Joanna.”
  • Fans immediately lashed out on Twitter, dubbing her a “spoiled brat” and “Miss Arrogance.” Others defended her though, saying she was just being “modest.”
  • Red Sparrow floats into theaters March 2nd.
