Still no sign of missing jet skier

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops RCMP hasn’t given up its search for a missing jet skier.

The man, whose name has not been released, went missing after his jet ski collided with another jet skier on July 29 on the South Thompson River near Valleyview.

“With the RCMP, we don’t close a file until it’s concluded successfully,” says Cpl. Jodi Shelkie. “So, our file will remain open. As well, our RCMP air helicopter was searching the river on Aug. 4 and Aug. 5. And as available, our helicopter will be searching the river.”

Kamloops Search and Rescue has also been engaged with the search deploying its swift water and drone teams. The missing man’s family also organized a search last week.

Shelkie told CFJC last week that river conditions always make recovery missions difficult.

“It’s always a challenge when you’re searching for a body in a river as rivers change from season to season and day to day almost. So, it’s really challenging to figure out where the person could be and when they will show up.”

Police say the other jet skier involved in the crash is okay.
