BRITISH COLUMBIA — B.C’s Attorney General, David Eby, will be soon be meeting with federal, provincial, and territorial ministers responsible for justice and public safety to discuss legal action against the opioid industry and curbing money laundering

Earlier this year, British Columbia launched a lawsuit againd opioid drug companies, claiming the marketing contributed to the opioid epidemic, and cost the government millions in related health care costs.

If the Supreme Court of B.C certifies the claim as a class action, every province and territory can participate. The B.C. government has also passed legislation to allow the claim to be streamlined in being proven, not unlike litigation against the tobacco industry.

In a release, the provincial government says David Eby’s meeting on November 15 and 16 in St. John’s Newfoundland, will also discuss the steps being taken the end the flow of dirty money in B.C’s casinos, following recommendations out of the Peter German report.
