KAMLOOPS — A local film crew has won a $10,000 grant to produce a documentary on the effects of the 2017 Elephant Hill wildfire.

‘The Fire Within Us’ will be directed by Kamloops filmmaker Shalyn Pigeon, and feature stories centering on the impacts of the fire on the youth of the Ashcroft Indian Band.

The grant is provided by the Telus StoryHive initiative.

Elephant Hill exploded on July 7, 2017, quickly tearing through homes and structures on the band’s territory before growing to nearly 200,000 hectares in size.
