Proposed renovation would add special seating to Sandman Centre

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops council will be asked to authorize renovations to Sandman Centre at its regular meeting next week.

The project would see the southwest upper concourse transformed into loge seating.

The Kamloops Blazers Hockey Club is behind the recommendation, and is hoping for 16 loges, totalling 64 seats.

The Blazers say they already have demand for three-year commitments on 14 of the 16 units, at a cost to the purchasers of $6,350 each per year.

While the city would reap the concession revenue from the seating, the Blazers will retain revenue from the loges themselves in exchange for the hockey club picking up the $292,000 construction cost.

In its report to council, staff say there is not strong demand for hockey tickets in the upper gondola section anyway.
