Snowfall expected to hit Interior highways

KAMLOOPS —  It’s back to winter on Interior highways today.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for today and tonight for both the Coquihalla and the Fraser Canyon. 20-25 centimeters of snow are expected to fall over the Coquihalla from Hope to Merritt through the next 24 hours before the snow is expected to stop tomorrow morning. 10-20 centimeters is expected for the Fraser Canyon. 

Environment Canada advises a moist Pacific frontal system will bring about 20 cm of snow to the route through tonight. The snow will become heavy at times by this evening. The snow is forecast to end by Wednesday morning as the frontal system moves out of the area.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

In Kamloops itself, we’re expecting a chance of flurries today, changing to a 70 percent of periods of snow by noon, changing to  periods of snow mixed with rain tomorrow. Compact snow, slushy and slippery sections on all interior routes this morning.
