Fifth annual Coldest Night of the Year walk Saturday

KAMLOOPS — The Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser will take place in Kamloops this weekend, raising funds to address homelessness in the city.

The national fundraiser will see members of the public walk the streets of downtown Kamloops tomorrow night, in an attempt to guage what it would be like to live rough in winter conditions.

The Executive Director of New Life Community Kamloops Stan Dueck says, “the purpose is obviously to draw attention and gain support for homelessness and poverty and for people who may have fallen on hard times that just need a hand. We’re fortunate for our climate in Kamloops right now. Elsewhere in the country it’s snowy and freezing cold and people are living outside.”

New Life has raised over $100 thousand in the four previous walks and is hoping to raise an additional $50 thousand tomorrow.

With 235 registered walkers,  New Life is already over halfway to it’s goal.
