KAMLOOPS — So this is it — the start of a new full circle in the never ending cycle of hockey. Blazers goaltenders are getting the early jump to training camp with a three day exclusive camp.
Dylan Ferguson will go into training camp as the number one on the depth chart.
It’s been an exercise of patience for the 19-year old from Lantzville, B.C., who has spent the last two seasons playing back up to Connor Ingram.
Ferguson says Ingram was a silent mentor and adds “going into this season all the work of the last two years and having that patience will pay off.”
It was a whirlwind summer for Ferguson, who was drafted by the Dallas Stars in late June.
A day later as he was preparing to go fishing he got two phone calls —- the first from Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill telling him he’d been traded, the second from George McPhee, the general manager of the Las Vegas Golden Knights, to welcome him to Las Vegas.
Fishing trip was on hold until he returned from the Golden Knights prospects camp.
Returning to Lantzville Ferguson went fishing “I like fly fishing — caught some pink salmon, Mike Neeham (assistant coach) smokes ’em up for team here, it’s good stuff.”
