More snow in store for Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Yet another wintry blast is headed Kamloops’ way.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Doug Lundquist says we can expect two to five centimetres in the lower parts of town and five to 10 at the highest elevations.

“It’s mostly today and then it’s going to taper off to flurries in the evening and then Saturday warmer with a high of about zero, perhaps.”

He says a snowfall warning is in effect with at least 10 centimetres of snow expected in Williams Lake and a chance of more in the Cariboo mountains. 100 Mile House will see slightly less and Clearwater could receive as much as 20 centimetres.

Lundquist adds if you can avoid driving the Coquihalla today (Friday) do so.

“I do worry about it today. I think it’s already snowing on the Coquihalla. We’re expecting quite a bit, like 15 centimetres on the Hope to Merritt and probably five to 10 for the rest of it. It will be better through the Fraser Canyon but will have snow similar to what Kamloops is getting.”

But it’s not all doom and gloom as Lundquist is forecasting a bit of a warm up for next week in Kamloops.

“It keeps warming up for next week. We’re looking at highs in the mid-single digits for most of the week, so it’s looking decent. Long range, it looks like there’s a possibility, though we could take one more kick at the cat for Arctic air later next week. But we’ll see how it goes.”
