Poor visibility creating issues at Kamloops Airport

KAMLOOPS — “The restaurant’s quite busy, and there appears to be lots of beer flowing,” chuckled Airport Manager Fred Legace.

Legace was looking at the bright side as thick fog led to a spate of flight cancellations Wednesday.

As of early afternoon, three flights had been cancelled, and two more were delayed indefinitely, with cancellation likely.

That led to a very full terminal building.

“There are a lot of people that are still there that are trying to get to the counters and talk to the agents to make alternate arrangements,” said Legace.

“Most people, however, are connected electronically, so they’re doing it all on their phones.”

Legace says airports across the country are extremely busy, so travellers need to pack an extra measure of patience.

“We’re starting to see people heading back home from their Christmas holidays and we’re seeing people who have holidays over New Year’s, and they’re heading out. So it’s a little bit of an intersection of a whole bunch of people travelling and you’ll see some bigger crowds at the connecting airports.”
