Train temporarily blocks access in and out of Rayleigh

KAMLOOPS — A two-mile long train temporarily blocked both overland accesses to the community of Rayleigh this afternoon.

The train sat listless on the CN tracks near the community for nearly an hour.

Rayleigh resident Shawn Jette was one of several to call our station, expressing concern.

“We can’t get access to emergency services, we can’t access town – I was just going to the Petro-Can to get something to drink,” said Jette.

Another resident called on Minister of Transportation Todd Stone to take a look at the accesses in and out of Rayleigh, noting a scenario like this could be catastrophic in the case of a fire or other emergency.

Jette told CFJC Today he was informed the train suffered a mechanical problem, but calls placed to CN Rail seeking confirmation have yet to be returned.
