KAMLOOPS — It was snowing in Kamloops this morning, it’s white at the top of the Coquihalla Summit, and Environment Canada says it will only get whiter.

The agency has issued a snowfall warning for the stretch between Merritt and Hope.

Forecaster David Jones says the temperature will warm up, but the danger for drivers returns tonight.

“The snow will change to rain, perhaps five to 10 centimetres, and then it’s going to cool off again tonight so there’s another snowfall forecast,” said Jones. “And [it will turn] much heavier this evening as the temperature starts to fall again so overnight tonight there could be another 10 to 20 centimetres.”

Jones says the rain falling on top of snow will likely make the highway very slippery.
