KAMLOOPS — When the proposed performing arts centre for downtown Kamloops was voted down last year, Mayor Peter Milobar said there was no ‘Plan B’ for the former Kamloops Daily News property.
Now, the city is looking for a ‘Plan B.’
The city has issued an Expression of Interest to see if the public or the development community have any good ideas for the land and building at 4th and Seymour.
Real Estate Manager Dave Freeman says the process is wide open, but certain proposals will be more attractive than others.
“Councils goal is to get more livability in the downtown, we do have a surplus of office space, the parking was to support existing monthly employees, so anything that came in that had a strong residential component, and had some parking would certainly be meeting those goals,” said Freeman.
The city bought the property for 4.8-million dollars in 2014, and Freeman says if the proposal includes selling it back to the private sector, it will have to be a very attractive offer.
