BC Wildfire Service encourages public to help spot wildfires in low visibility

KAMLOOPS — With thick smoke blanketing the region, Kamloops Fire Centre officials say it’s more important than ever that the public helps report new wildfire starts.

Fire Information Officer Marla Catherall says the smoke makes fire-spotting very difficult, even for trained professionals.

“It does make it harder to detect new wildfires because the smoke is everywhere. We continue to urge the public that, if you do see something, report it,” said Catherall.

Some sections of the Kamloops Fire Centre have seen lower fire danger ratings than the rest of the province in recent weeks, but Catherall says they are catching up quickly.
