Campers reminded to stay vigilant with campfires this weekend

KAMLOOPS — As the long weekend progresses campers are being asked to do their part to prevent wildfires. 

The BC Wildfire Service is reminding people that while there is localized flooding in communities across the province, other areas are extremely dry. 

Fire information officer Jody Lucius says campers need to be especially vigilant with their campfires this weekend.

“If you are having campfires make sure they’re fully out, and extinguished, and cool to touch before you leave the site,” Lucius said. 

Campers are encouraged to take a shovel along and eight litres of water to properly extinguish their fire.
