Speed a factor in fatal Schubert Dr. crash: RCMP

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say they believe speed was a factor in a fatal crash on the North Shore early Saturday morning, but still don’t know whether drugs or alcohol played a part.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the crash happened on Schubert Drive between Spruce and Juniper Avenues.

“The Ford Explorer that was travelling north of Schubert Drive crashed through two fences and numerous trees,” said Shelkie. “We know that the 31 year old male driver was deceased at the scene, and the 25 year old male passenger from Surrey went to Royal Inland Hospital and had surgery for his injuries.

Shelkie says the BC Coroners Service is expected to complete an autopsy on the driver shortly, and that will determine whether or not the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time.
