McDonald Park protester arrested

KAMLOOPS — A protester is facing serious charges after an encounter with a Kamloops by-law officer near McDonald Park this morning.

Kamloops RCMP Corporal Jodi Shelkie says the by-law officer was trying to ensure the man wouldn’t drive his vehicle into the path of an excavator being off-loaded.

“Fearing that the protester might drive his vehicle into the park and try to block the excavator, the by-law officer told the man not to move his vehicle and then stood directly behind him,” said Shelkie. “The male put the vehicle in reverse and hit the officer, and then sped away at a high rate of speed.”

The officer wasn’t hurt.

Responding RCMP officers arrested the man at his home, but allege he resisted.

The 61 year old is facing charges of assault with a weapon and resisting arrest.
