Turban river rescuer given lifesaving award

KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops man who used his turban to pull a woman from the fast-flowing North Thompson River has been recognized by the Lifesaving Society of BC and Yukon.

Avtar Hothi was given the society’s Silver Medal of Merit, for his actions last June.

Hothi was working on his farm in Heffley Creek when he sprang into action to rescue the young woman.
