Guardians of the Galaxy On Hold

The future of the third installment of the $1.6 billion Guardians of the Galaxy franchise remains up in the air after Disney and Marvel fired director James Gunn.
The House of Mouse has been criticized by cast and crew (including Dave Bautista, Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana) for firing Gunn after decade-old tweets he sent making fun of rape and pedophilia surfaced.
But Disney is sticking to its guns, according to reports. The production has officially released crew members hired to begin pre-production and is allowing them to look for other work. No word on when the film will land or who will direct.
FAST FACTS:
- Gunn took responsibility for his tweets, releasing a statement at the time that said: “My words of nearly a decade ago were, at the time, totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocative. I have regretted them for many years since – not just because they were stupid, not at all funny, wildly insensitive, and certainly not provocative like I had hoped, but also because they don’t reflect the person I am today or have been for some time.”
- Variety reports that while Gunn will not direct Guardians, the script he wrote will likely be used.
