Music News for Monday
SIA TURNED DOWN A PHOTO WITH DONALD TRUMP: Sia was the musical guest on Donald Trump’s episode of Saturday Night Live back in 2015 during his presidential campaign and she’s opening up about a moment with him backstage. The singer says that Trump, with his daughter Ivanka lurking behind him with a camera in hand, approached her and said, “We’ve got to get a photo!” Sia replied, “Actually, do you mind if we don’t? I have a lot of queer and Mexican fans, and I don’t want them to think that I support your views.” Sia tells Rolling Stone that Trump did not seem angry or hurt and said, “Oh, no problem. Then don’t.” “It was as if he viewed me as protecting my brand,” Sia said. “He respected that. I was like, ‘Thank you so much,’ and then I went into my dressing room and had crazy diarrhea.”
IMAGINE DRAGONS DROP ‘NATURAL’ VIDEO: Imagine Dragons have unleashed a haunting video for their latest single, “Natural.” In the video, frontman Dan Reynolds is seen sitting in a house filled with oddities, with the camera alternating between shots of dirty doll heads, a piano that plays itself, maggots and a beautiful, mysterious woman in a bathtub. Dressed in Civil War era garb, Reynolds is joined by an eerie cast of characters and scenes of someone being buried alive and the band rocking out in a field. ESPN announced in July that this season’s college football anthem would be the “Natural.”
NICK JONAS TEAMS UP WITH ROBIN SCHULZ FOR ‘RIGHT NOW’: Fresh from celebrating his engagement with Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas is back with some new music. The singer released a new song Friday called “Right Now,” a collaboration with German DJ/producer Robin Schulz. Over a club-ready dance beat, Nick sings about missing someone, but realizing that he doesn’t want anyone else to fill the void. The song follows Nick’s other collaboration with a DJ/producer which came out in May: “Anywhere,” which was produced by Mustard. No word yet on when Nick’s next album will arrive. His last album, Last Year Was Complicated, came out in 2016.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY NAMES SONGS OF THE SUMMER: Entertainment Weekly has announced its pick for Song of the Summer 2018, crowning “I Like It,” by Cardi B, Bad Bunny and J Balvin the Song of the Summer, writing, “The boogaloo beat has been played nonstop for months now and with such a bright, colorful video to accompany it, it seemed like a good bet. Cardi runs the summer music scene ‘like cardio’ and fully deserves the top honor.” Coming in at No. 2 is Drake’s “In My Feelings,” followed by Ariana Grande’s “No Tears Left to Cry” at No. 3.
