John Goodman’s Still in Roseanne’s Corner
John Goodman is opening up about his co-star Roseanne Barr, and the cancelation of their hit ABC show. Barr was fired and Roseanne was tabled after she fired off a series of racist tweets, including one in which she compared former Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett to an ape.
The 66-year-old Goodman tells The Sunday Times that he was devastated when Roseanne was cancelled.
“I was brokenhearted, but I thought, ‘OK, it’s just show business, I’m going to let it go,’” he recalls. “But I went through a period, about a month, where I was very depressed. I’m a depressive anyway, so any excuse that I can get to lower myself, I will. But that had a great deal to do with it, more than I wanted to admit.”
He also went to bat for Barr, saying he knows “for a fact that she’s not a racist.” Goodman adds that she gave up her rights so a spinoff of the show, The Conners, could proceed without her.
