KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers got five goals from the defence tonight as they won 6-1 on home ice over the Spokane Chiefs.
The Chiefs, who played in Seattle last night, struck for the game’s first goal on a power play rush.
Jaret Anderson-Dolan was at the side of the goal to tap in a pass from Keanu Yamamoto and give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead 2:20 into the game.
The Blazers played a steady game all night and got on the scoreboard at the 13:46 mark of the period.Ondrej Vala’s long blast beat goaltender Dawson Weatherill on the glove side to make it 1-1.
Collin Shirley made it 2-1 on the power play less than two minutes later on a one-time feed from Joe Gatenby.
Dawson Davidson rounded out the first period scoring as he took a great pass from Quinn Benjafield and ripped home a shot with 39 seconds left in the period to give the Blazers a 3-1 lead after the first period.
It took a bit, but the Blazers extended their lead midway through the second period. Nolan Kneentook a feed from Nick Chyzowski and put a shot just under the bar for a 4-1 lead for the Blazers.
Ondrej Vala made it 5-1 less than a minute later with another blast from the point for his second of the game.
Dawson Davidson made it 6-1 as he snuck a shot in on the rush.
From there, the Blazers put it on cruise control as they won 6-1 on home ice to improve their record to 4-5-0-0 on the season.
The Blazers were 2-for-3 on the power play, while the Chiefs were 1-for-5 on the night. The Blazers outshot the Chiefs 35-30 on the night.
The Blazers will play their next game in Tri-City on Friday night against the Americans to finish off a stretch of 8 of 10 games on the road. The Blazers will then play five straight home games starting next week on October 19th against the Swift Current Broncos.
