Crews contain two wildfires near Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Two fires in our area over the weekend point out that it could be a hot dry summer in the interior. 

Saturday, a grass fire near Savona grew to 4 hectares before being put out by ground crews with air tanker support. 

Then on Sunday, a fire in the Lac Du Bois area grew to nearly 3 hectares before being contained by crews.

That brings to 38 the number of fires in our area this year so far. 

On Sunday the annual open fire ban was put in place for the Kamloops fire centre, meaning all fires except campfires are banned.

Officials predicting another potential problem season with fires as snowpacks are at their lowest level ever for this time of year.
