Yachison ruled out of first preseason game

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Broncos alumnus Derek Yachison has been officially ruled out of the B.C. Lions first preseason game on Saturday in Saskatchewan.

Yachison injured his knee at training camp on Tuesday when he crashed to the turf in the endzone. He’s experienced swelling in his knees and has been receiving treatment on a daily basis.

But his rehabilitation was coming along too slow for the Lions to bring him to Regina, where he would’ve played his first CFL game.

“It’s disappointing,” says Yachison, who’s been waiting for this opportunity during the past three years. “But at the same time, it’s part of the game. When you’re at this level of football, you prepare for things like this to happen. I’m now focused on being ready for the game next Friday, should I be given the opportunity to play.”

Yachison is hoping rest over the weekend will help in his return, as he sets his sights on the Lions’ second and final preseason game next week at home against Calgary.
