Police respond to 3rd targeted shooting in Prince George

Jun 23, 2016 | 1:25 PM

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Police are at the scene of the 3rd targeted shooting in Prince George, in less than 2 weeks.

Mounties say the home on Gould Crescent was hit just after midnight, June 23.

A 26-year-old man was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Police say his injuries were that were not the result of a gunshot wound, but won’t say exactly how he was hurt.

RCMP have detained 5 people who were inside the home at the time, in order to find out what happened.

At this point, police believe the incident was drug-related.

Neighbours tell our affiliate CKPG the family that lives there rents out part of the home.

Witnesses say they heard yelling, followed by at least 2 gunshots.

Within 5 minutes, witnesses say police were on the scene.

This latest shooting is just a block away from Forest Avenue, where a 30-year-old man was killed last Thursday, June 16, in a targeted hit.

Nearly a week before, police responded to Freeman Street, where neighbours were nearly hit by a stray bullet.

Police admit that shooting was also tied to the drug trade.

On Gould Crescent, many homeowners say they’re worried about the threat of possibly more gun violence in the otherwise quiet neighbourhood, just off Ospika near Westwood Church.
